[21.10.2005 13:35] Olav Hundvin in Kigali Olav Hundvin is settling in to life in Kigali after taking up the position as Norwegian Church Aid’s Resident Representative for the Great Lakes region. By Stein Villumstad, Regional Representative, Eastern Africa Hundvin arrived in Kigali in the beginning of September. As he took up his post he declared that he has great confidence in his new colleagues and partners in the Great Lakes region. “The most important thing for me is the dialogue with our local employees on how we can best assist our partners in reaching their goals. The local people have the vision, and they have the networks necessary to do the job. Our main challenge will be to find those partners who can achieve results with those who need our support the most,” he said. Olav Hundvin is married with four children. He is an economist by training, and has for the last eleven years worked in Norway with Christian secondary schools. His five and a half years of African experience were gained in Mali, where he initially worked for the Stromme Foundation, and later for Norwegian Church Aid. Olav reveals that he is very much looking forward to getting deeply involved with partners in facing the challenges of HIV and AIDS, water and sanitation, emergency preparedness, and not least peace and reconciliation. Projects supported by Norwegian Church Aid that work with the released prisoners of the genocide, their families, the victims and their families is perhaps the most important contribution the organization is making in Rwanda at the moment, he said. Olav also specifically mentioned the challenges related to demobilisation and reintegration of child soldiers and reconciliation issues in Burundi and DR Congo. Olav, his wife Olaug and his two accompanying children Olav Kyrre and Sigrid Marie are very welcome to Great Lakes and Eastern Africa!
